Music done right /
July 30 2007 /
Every now and then I like to get a taste of some new music and I always hope that I will like whatever I’m buying, downloading, or being sent. More often than not, I hate just about everything I hear. I’m extremely picky about the music I listen to and it seems that if I don’t like one tiny element of one song I almost always discredit the band and dismiss them into the “Trash Band” folder I have stored away in my brain somewhere.
I’ve always had a strange system for music, like that. Most people that I know of listen to music by the track. They will listen to one track from one artist that they like, and then go onto another track from a completely different artist. For some unknown reason this has always bothered me. When I listen to music I tend to treat albums as tracks, I’ll listen to a few albums at a time from any given band, and then switch it up and listen to a few from another band. But I rarely if ever skip around track by track.
But every now and then I’ll strike gold with a certain band or album, and they will be added to the albums to play list. In the last few months I’ve gone through a lot of post-rock stuff, and I’ve found tons of absolutely horrible bands, and 3 amazing bands. It’s pretty much the same way for any other genre. In the last month or so I haven’t really listened to anything new that I’ve liked. But Joey is an ass and makes me listen to all of his music :)
Joey has introduced me to a lot of bands, one of which has become one of my favorites (Soilwork). Tonight he sent me a track from the new album from the band Darkest Hour. I’m currently running through my second run of the album. So if anyone likes melodic death metal, or is just interested in trying some new music check out this track. You never know, you might just strike gold with this track, so give it a shot.
Also on a sidenote of music, there will mention of a music project I’m doing with Danny sometime in the next week. So check back in a few days.

Soilwork is one of my favorite bands. I’ll need to go get a Darkest Hour album sometime to give it a shot.
Also, I also use that same system. I start an album and listen to every track straight through unless I get interrupted or something. I also like to listen to a number of albums from the same band in order of their release date. This can give you an idea of their musically progression.
